Youtube Bonanza!

Welp, this is crazy! Over the past year I have steadily started building the Wild Outdoor Living youtube channel. Even though I did upload one video to the channel in 2013 the channel didn't really start until January of 2016 when I uploaded my Winter Bike Commuting gear video. It got about 200 views in the first few weeks, which I thought was a pretty big deal. Even though that's obviously small for youtube channels, it's still 200 people and actually far exceeded the average video I made back in high school.

Despite the apparent success I didn't upload another video until July, when I shot what I still consider to be a pretty solid review of my Trek 920 one sunny morning. That video went practically viral, hitting 1000 views in just a couple of weeks and not slowing down from there. Seeing that success coupled with just how much fun it is to produce videos I started to make more and more. I was super stoked when I finally past 15 subscribers, the number of subscribers that my friends and I had amassed making random sketches over ten years ago. As the views rolled in so did the comments, most of them good and even though many of my videos are still in the hundreds of views, there are more and more that are well into the thousands.

It has only been in the last couple of months that I have made a commitment to start uploading at least once a week but the growth and support over that time has been simply outstanding to me. My greatest aspiration is that the channel will get more people outside riding their bikes. That our roads will be safer, and that people will live healthier and most importantly happier lives. Despite my racing and training experience, bikes for me have always been about freedom and adventure and so I am genuinely honored that so many have decided to subscribe and join me in that quest.

Sure, I only have 330 subscribers as of this post, but that is still a ton of people. Several of my videos are at or over the 7000 view mark. There were 7000 people at the start line of my first El Tour De Tucson back in 2005. If you had told me that morning before I rode my first 100+ miles that everyone here, and in some cases many times more would watch a video that I created about cycling, I would have thought you were genuinely mad. My most watched video right now has 33,000 views. I would be terrified to speak in front of that many people. Which is why it is taking me so long to come out with the follow up to that video. I want to make sure I get it right!

If you are a subscriber of the channel and happen to read this I just have to say thank you. The support that has been shown for the channel and most importantly the support for bike travel in general has been truly humbling.
